I recently had an opportunity to set up a dessert table for a friend of mine. So I immediately started to brainstorm and I came up with a few things. Unfortunately, my friend cancelled the party and now I don’t have anywhere to put these ideas to use. I started to think of maybe doing a Mock party, to showcase these ideas. I know that a lot of what we see on the big party sites are just Mock parties. I am wondering how many of you all really do them and how often? More importantly, how do you get all of the required discount party supplies for the mock parties.
In general, I have learned that a full party display attracts more attention and leads to more custom parties. I use the photos in my shop with a link to the party online. The posts on my website are listed on the web and then I get inquiries. It happens almost daily. I get requests for parties I have mock designed that are not even listed in my shop.
Do you include actual “food” items such as cupcakes, donuts, cookies, etc. in your mock up parties and if so what do you do with all of it after you’re done? I think that’s my issue… I want to stage the parties, but don’t know if I should include food items (especially if I intend to throw them away afterwards) because there is no way I could consume all of those items (or even want to).
I do use real food. It is an investment that I think reaps rewards later. If I am doing a mock party for a cause, website, or event – than I sometimes ask other party girls to get involved. I have been so lucky that others want to be involved. I am by no means a baker or a master of fondant, so the talent from others makes the party.
I think mock parties are great, especially for newbies who don’t have the clients or portfolio for business. People are visual and it always helps to have a reference. You are basically investing into yourself and showing your strengths whereas if you wait on business you may not get the opportunity. I say go on with your bad self.
